Hello everyone ! My name is Lucas and I am passionate about travel, always looking for authentic experiences. Recently, I had the chance to discover Provence with Virginie, a passionate expert on this beautiful region. In addition to discovering magnificent places, I also came to improve my French, and I must say that I was not disappointed.
My immersion course in Provence with Virginie
Each day began with a friendly breakfast where I could practice French. Virginie encouraged me to speak and improve my understanding. After that, I took three hours of lessons with her. I really wanted to work on my oral comprehension, so we often discussed at length on various subjects, from Provençal culture to travel. Virginie was right: “Working is boring!” After our lessons, we shared a delicious Provençal dish together, always prepared with local produce. During my immersion course in Provence, one of my greatest desires was to discover the famous lavender fields. Virginie advised me to visit the Valensole plateau very early in the morning to avoid the crowds of tourists and enjoy the calm and beauty of the place. My excursion began at dawn, under a deep blue sky.
A sunrise in the lavender fields in Provence
So we got up very early to admire an incredible natural spectacle. The lavender fields, stretching as far as the eye could see, formed purple waves in the golden light of the rising sun. Virginie explained to me the different varieties of lavender and showed me how to cut them in the traditional way to preserve the quality of these flowers which are so precious to the region. After spending a long time enjoying the view and the scent of the flowers, we hit the road for lunch at a local restaurant.
Provençal lunch near the lavender fields of Valensole
For lunch, Virginie had reserved a table in a small, typical restaurant, nestled in the heart of nature and surrounded by wild flowers. We tasted stuffed Provençal tomatoes accompanied by potatoes, a real delight. The meal was accompanied by a glass of rosé from Provence, which made the moment even more pleasant. After lunch, we headed to a lavender distillery to learn about the process of producing this popular oil.
Afternoon of discovery and relaxation at the Provençal distillery
In the afternoon, we visited a local distillery specializing in the production of lavender essential oil. Virginie explained to me the different stages of the process, from the moment the flowers are cut to the extraction of the oil. It was fascinating to see how traditional know-how and modern technologies combine to obtain pure, high-quality oil. I also learned a lot about the history of lavender and its importance in Provençal culture. Before leaving the distillery, I made a quick detour to the store to buy a few bags of dried lavender. A perfect souvenir from Provence to take home.
Reflections on an idyllic day with Virginie in Provence
This day will remain engraved in my memory as one of the highlights of my immersion course in Provence. Not only did I discover incredible landscapes and learn a lot about the local culture, but I also improved my French without even realizing it. If you are looking for an authentic experience, I recommend this immersion course to all lovers of nature, travel and the French language.
