Good morning ! My name is Angela and I am on a language immersion in Provence with Virginie for the fourth time this year. Today we explore L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, a charming little town known for its clear waters and pretty canals.
A picturesque morning at L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue in Provence
To start the day, we stroll in front of the windows of the many shops. The wind blows hard, but the sun warms the air, making our walk very pleasant. The water reflections in the canals add a magical touch to the city, and each bridge offers a new picturesque view, perfect for souvenir photos. At the end of the morning, it is time to discover the culinary delights of the region.
Unexpected lunch at “Panier des Chefs” in L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue
Virginie has reserved a table at the “Panier des Chefs”. When we arrive, we are surprised to discover that the restaurant offers a unique experience: a single large table where we eat lunch in the company of other guests, while watching the chef prepare our dishes. It's fascinating ! We start with a delicious trout gravlax and foie gras.
The main course is tender veal topped with a creamy mushroom sauce. To accompany everything, we taste a glass of Sancerre then a Muscat with our desserts. I enjoy a tarte tatin while Virginie enjoys a strawberry tart. The conversation with the other guests, who came from various backgrounds, enriches our meal with discussions on the best vineyards in the region.
Satisfied and delighted, we are ready for a touch of culture.
Afternoon between culture and relaxation at Isle-sur-la-Sorgue
Later, we visit a small ocean-themed art exhibition. Although modest, it offers captivating works that I really like. Each painting tells a story about the sea, from sea creatures to coastal landscapes, stimulating my imagination. Then, a walk along the canals allows us to meet ducks, curious and greedy. I would have liked to give them something to snack on. Our last stop is an antique store where Virginie's husband found a beautiful antique mirror. I am fascinated by the many objects from the past, each with its own story to tell.
With so many wonderful moments, it's hard to think about leaving.

This day in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue was a feast for the eyes and the taste buds. I am sure I will come back to visit this charming city during my next stay in Provence. I have already planned to return to Virginie for a month in April 2025.
